Age Range: 20 to 50 years

Current Profile of Service: The property is a large detached house with a spacious garden for service users to use at their leisure. The house is spacious with each bedroom being en-suite. There is a lift which accesses all three floors of the house.

Hours Provided: The service has waking night staff and background staff during the day. Individuals are assessed for 1:1 hours and staffing levels are set in order to match these.

Focus of Service: Our aim is to support individuals to achieve their goals, participate in meaningful activities and become more self-sufficient, building on their skills. We aim to encourage as much independence as possible, and provide care in a person centered way so that service users are supported in their preferred way, and are encouraged and motivated to lead a fulfilling lifestyle.

Bridgewater has two large communal lounges, a dining room and visitors’ room and the communal kitchen is always left open for residents to use with support. The eight bedrooms all have either an en suite bathroom or wet room.

The home is approximately two miles from the sea front at St Leonards-on-Sea and has easy access to local shops, including supermarkets, hairdressers, pubs and a post office on nearby Silver Hill.

The town centre has a wide range of shops, pubs, restaurants and cinemas. The old town, about three miles away, is home to a Sea Life Centre, museums and amusement arcades.

All service users are encouraged to maximise their independent living skills. All have a person-centred plan, a care plan for independent living skills and individual activity plan. Some service users go to Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne while one service user takes part in work experience at a local café and another cleans out the stables at a local riding school.

Others enjoy dance classes at Active Arts, which is run by Mencap. Service users also attend horse riding lessons in nearby towns and a local hydrotherapy pool, which is fully accessible and has hoists and adaptations for those with physical disabilities. The local swimming pool is also sometimes used by service users. Other facilities locally include the Sea Life Centre, museums and amusement arcades.

Bridgewater has a large garden with a swing and patio area for barbecues and social events. Service users enjoy playing football, basketball, skittles and other games in the garden and are encouraged to be involved in growing plants and looking after the garden generally. The property also has a fully equipped sensory room.

Holly Scales the service manager has 9 years experience in the health and social care sector. She has a Diploma level 5 in management and leadership in health and social care sector she is able to lead and develop am excellent and skilled staff team and service. She is a friendly and approachable manager who has training in area’s such as Autism, Challenging behaviour, Makaton and person centred approaches and is able to apply this knowledge in the service.

The team, have around 55 years of experience between them in working in the care industry. Most staff have or are working towards a Diploma Level 2 or 3 in Health and social care. Staff receive specialist training in Epilepsy and the administration of Buccal Midazolam, Autism, Makaton, Oxygen, Diabetes and the administration of insulin.
