This August, our services all over the country have been kicking off our annual fundraising events by hosting a picnic as part of Regard’s ‘Big Picnic Fortnight’. The events so far have helped raise over £3,000 for our voted charity of the year YoungMinds.

Cherrycroft, our residential care service in Westcliff-on-Sea, decided to combine their annual BBQ event with the summer picnic. The sun was out, shining down upon them as they chose the perfect day to host their event which turned out to be a great success according to the manager and the people who attended.

The people we support at the service fully embraced the event by helping put up bunting, balloons and YoungMind decorations around the garden. One of the individuals even brought a new dress for the occasion!

On the day of the event the people we support, staff, family and friends all joined in by taking part in a treasure hunt; where each team had to collect certain items that were hidden around the garden. The winning team won a whistling garden gnome and found 18 items on their hunt; including a receipt from an Italian restaurant.

Teresa Rudd, the Service Manager said: ‘The afternoon concluded with three staff taking part in a fundraising wet sponge throwing contest. I believe this was everyone’s favourite activity of the day as they loved wetting the staff.’

The fun and games raised over £80 for YoungMinds, a charity who are committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young adults.
