Garthowen, our residential service in Ceredigion, recently opened their doors as part of Care Home Open Day 2018.
Across Regard, 20 services have been, or will be getting involved in the national event which has a running theme of ‘Linking Communities’.
Amyleigh Normanton, Service Manager, and staff at Garthowen planned and organised the event.
Ahead of the open day, staff and the individuals supported by the service prepared by making decorations to hang up. Megan, who lives at Garthowen coloured in posters, and other individuals made bunting.
Amyleigh booked a jazz singer and entertainer for the event. He played a variety of songs from a Cliff Richard medley to ‘the wanderer.’ Everyone enjoyed getting involved by singing and dancing.
Although the weather was not on their side, this did not dampen the spirits of the staff and people supported by Garthowen, and the open day still went ahead.
Everyone enjoyed some tasty barbequed food including sausages and burgers.
Reflecting on the day, Amyleigh said “It was a lovely day and quite relaxing. We all enjoyed some live music, and then we all sat together and had some lovely food over meaningful discussions and laughter. “
Beverly, who is supported by the service said “It was nice, the food was very tasty and the music was good. I had fun. It was a lovely day and I enjoyed it.”
