A young man with epilepsy and learning difficulties from Reigate is being supported to live independently and access the community by planning a holiday to Southsea in Portsmouth.

James, who lives at our Millbrae House supported living service, was recently supported by staff to organise and plan the trip. Melanie, who runs the service, said: ‘The team have supported James in his day-to-day life enabling him to access the community, build on his skills, and go on holiday. This is such a big achievement for James - it has been wonderful to see his progress throughout the last 16 years that he has lived here.’

James was supported by Lissa, Support Worker, to plan and organise his travels, she said: ‘We helped James plan his holiday by assisting him with choosing a hotel, deciding what to take, packing his case and budget planning to ensure he was able to do everything he wanted to.’

Whilst on their trip James enjoyed three of his favourite things; fish and chips, cups of tea, and ice cream. Melanie said: ‘James enjoyed it so much that he is already planning another trip in the summer.’

Millbrae House currently has a first-floor vacancy available. For families interested in knowing more, details are available from Rod Brizzell on 07885 998240 or visit the service page below for more information.
