To raise money for MIND, Regard’s chosen charity of the year Cerrig Cornel decided to participate in a sponsored bike ride. The challenge was to complete 846-miles, the distance of the cycle route from Lands’ End to John O’Groats, using a stationary bike for those able to use it and the hand bike for those who are wheelchair dependent. Many of the staff and the people they support were involved in the two-week challenge.
The idea for the bike ride came from activities coordinator, Rachel, who was keen to highlight the link between exercise and its benefits to improved health. The staff team helped support individuals cycle throughout the day and through the night to achieve the 846-mile target in 15 days.
Simon, the Service Manager at Cerrig Camu, described how much everyone enjoyed the activity and tried to beat each other’s number of miles. The final stretch was completed at 2.30am on 26th October by Clare and Amber, the night staff.
All the staff and the people they support have been awarded certificates to celebrate their achievements and an award was given to William for achieving the most miles cycled by a service user.
To date the whole team has raised £117 of their £200 target.
