Blue Cottage open day was a fantastic success that was enjoyed by all who attended!

Once the invitations were sent out in June the response and attendance on the day was overwhelming. The day was attended by young people looking for supported living accommodation; all the individuals were also accompanied and supported by their social worker, care managers, and family.

Local representation from commissioners and learning disability teams from Kent, Medway and Bexley were also in attendance on the day. Each person was given a guided tour of the home and then many individuals spend time talking and enjoying the refreshments and light buffet in the conservatory and lounge whilst looking around the home again. Further appointments were made to meet families and individuals that were not able to attend on the day; this ensured that nobody missed out on what turned out to be a successful and enjoyable event.

Many people commented how homely Blue Cottage feels some of the individuals that looked around even chose rooms which they liked and asked when they could move in! The two individuals who have agreed funding met up at Blue Cottage for tea and cakes so that they could get to know each other prior to moving in.

‘We are looking forward to Nicky coming to live at Blue Cottage and having the opportunity to gain further independence’ – Sandra, parent.

‘I am so pleased my funding has been agreed I can’t wait to move into Blue Cottage from my residential home to support living the next step on my journey’-Shaun

‘During one of Shaun’s phone calls, he said ‘Dreams can come true mum! I’m at last in the right place. I’ve waited all my life for this.’ I’ve never heard him say anything like this before. He’s so happy and sounds very contented.’- Pat, Shaun’s Mum.

‘I visited Blue Cottage Open Day and was very impressed by the home; the décor was to a very high standard. The home felt very homely each room has its own en-suite bathroom with shower. The way the home was marketed was very impressive and I was very impressed by the staff members I met who were very welcoming. I would not hesitate in making a referral to Blue Cottage or Regard.’ – Sue, Medway Social Services
