Kim, who currently lives at The Grove, our residential service in Sutton, is currently volunteering at Deen City Farm in Wimbledon. She has loved animals ever since she was a child. With support from her parents, support worker Rukiah and manager at The Grove Katarzyna, she is thrilled to have been volunteering at the farm since September 2015. She visits the farm every Thursday for two hours, and is supported by staff who make sure she gets up and ready on time. A member of staff also accompanies her in the taxi to the farm.
Kim has written her story here: “My name is Beverley Kim Goodman and I live at The Grove in Sutton. I am a volunteer at Deen City Farm in Wimbledon. I love animals and since my childhood and adult life, I used to have hamster, guinea pigs and rabbits and I took good care of them. Ten years ago, my rabbits were put down, I was very devastated.
Before volunteering I used to remember and talk about my pets which made me very sad many times because they were my passion. One day my parents talked to my keyworker and manager about the Deen city farm volunteer opportunities. My keyworker supported me to fill the application form and I was very pleased when I was offered a place. I started volunteering in September 2015 to present and I enjoy it very much.
I go to the farm every Thursday for two hours. Staff prompt me to wake up and support me to get ready for the farm. I use a taxi and staff accompany me to the farm. At the farm I look at after rabbits, guinea pigs and rats. I feed them food, water and cleaning their cages with staff support. It is my responsibility, I am their mother and staff at The Grove have helped me to achieve my dream and I am very happy about the farm.”
