Moving into adulthood can be a time of great hope and excitement; however, it is also frequently met with uncertainty. At Regard, we have a number of services located throughout the country which are set up to support younger adults moving towards independent living for the first time. Our staff teams support people to learn skills which assist their development towards more independent living.
Amy Drew, our Customer Relationship Manager for the South and South West, recently attended a ‘Futures Fair’ transitions event held at the Foxes Academy, located in Minehead, Somerset. Foxes Academy supports young adults and offers ‘training in independent life skills in residential learner houses, plus the opportunity to learn catering skills in a real operating hotel, with paying guests, where a vast selection of functions take place all year round.’
The Futures Fair was planned following feedback from parents showing an interest in having more information about transitions and how their child’s life would change/develop moving forward into adulthood.
The event turned out to be a huge success, Amy met many members who showed a keen interest in Regard and wanted to find out more about us and our services.
She said: ‘The event was fun and very interesting. I didn’t get to speak to everyone on the day as it was so busy, however, I was able to hand out a lot of information about Regard and what we could offer families. The feedback was very positive and I look forward to attending their next transitions event.’
