As part of their planned activities the staff team at Uplands House, our residential care service in Newbridge, decided a day trip to the seafront of Barry Island is just what was needed to brighten up their day.
The day was enjoyed by Daryl, Richard and Chrissie, who all live at the service, and were supported by staff members Sam, Ann and Hannah (Support Workers). On the day of the trip they all enjoyed a nice walk along the seafront, relaxed with a cuppa and of course couldn’t leave before finishing off the day with what, was described by everyone, as a ‘delicious’ fish and chips dinner.
Service manager, Ann Peebles, said; “It was nice to see Daryl enjoying himself and interacting with the other individuals as he rarely likes to go out until late afternoon.
“Equally Richard, rarely left the house two years ago but now enjoys participating in activities such as coffee morning as well as day trips to the sea side and parks.
“Chrissie, on occasions can become anxious and may display challenging behaviours, however, it seemed like she had a good trip out and enjoyed the sunshine.”
The feedback from the day was a great success with Richard saying “it was nice to go to the seaside”, Chrissie is non-verbal but staff reported she seemed happy throughout the day and Daryl advised that he enjoyed his day out with everyone.
Following on from the success of the day the team are now planning their next day trip and hope it will be just as well received by everyone as their Barry Island trip was.
